Watching American Idol

Gosh I'm in an expressive mood. I guess coz I got nobody to talk to, this blog is a good place for me to 'talk' to my friends.

Anyway I was watching American Idol and just had the urge to comment on it!

I used to think Chris Daughtry was quite good - now I'm just bored. He's the same every week but he's been strong so far and there is a good shot he'll be at least Top 3.

I really like the song Taylor sang 'Just Once' by James Ingram- I'm surprised I know the lyrics to it! I shall find it and put it in my mp3 player heh heh. But the judges were right - he was robotic and also looked damn bored throughout his own performance.

What's with Paris looking so damn constipated when she tries to reach the notes? Go notice how she furrows her eyebrows and her lips move in the most unnatural fashion when she sings. Cannot bear to watch nor hear her sing! I hope she goes next!

Kellie Pickler is in trouble - what a boring rendition of 'Unchained Melody'! And she is SERIOUSLY bimbotic.

My faves would be Elliot (did u know the dude is partially deaf in one of his ears?) and Katherine (vocally only though - she doesn't seem to have much of a personality)

Alright rambling over!

Memories.. oh memories...

Taking a break from looking at flights and hotels and Pink & Teddy & a whole bunch of logistics nightmare.

Got these old pics and thought they were a hoot! Check out my gal pals in their best bimbo poses! This post is in 'honour' of Quek Siew Hoon who has been one of my most loyal readers always leaving 'anonymous' comments haha!

And us - singing our hearts out at karaoke! Haha! That's my 'sexy' shirt - my gawd my socks are horrible! :P

Woohoo - this is my 200th post!

Today is the 26th, tomorrow would mark my 8th month here in Cantoshithole. (and coincidentally enough, it would also be my 3rd month with G heh heh - though out of these 3 months, we saw each other for less than 14 days.)

Can't believe how fast it has been - has it REALLY been EIGHT months? Sometimes I feel as though I have been here for too long and I can't wait to go back to Singapore! I feel like my life is at a standstill while I work at this job, so I can go back and put this on my resume. Put on my resume and then do what? Find another job? Don't think I can go back and do my old job back in the SG company - that'll be like taking two steps back instead of one step forward which one should do when moving up the career ladder. What am I gonna do? Anyway this is premature worrying - I still have at least another year and a half to go here in HK.

I have too much work to do and it is driving me crazy! It's not even meaningful work - I'm just being a glorified coordinator lor.

I wish Jason Mraz was right - that 'Life is Wonderful'. Damn 'Geek in the Pink' is a damn catchy song! "Doo doo doo....!"

New spectacles

Everyone only wants to talk about themselves. What better way to do so by setting up a blog? ME MYSELF AND I! I RULE! Yadda yadda....you can start yawning and click to another site now. :P

I got new glasses! Made two pairs - the bling pair for weekends and the red Burberrys one for normal weekday wear!

Yay new shoes!

G bought me new shoes! I've been meaning to buy red Lacoste Mary Janes and we spent last week trying to look for them in HK but to no avail. So when he saw these in Stadium in Ngee Ann City this afternoon, he bought them! Yay! Well they aren't exactly Mary Janes but they are still red and cute as hell! I'll be seeing him in Bangkok - he's coming to meet me while I am there for the MTV Asia Awards. I have new shoes! Thank you! *Muakz*

More Macau pics

I like this pic a lot! Here we are, waiting for the ferry to take us to Macau. We were sitting there fine until we had to go get our seats assigned. Then when we came back, some HKie took the seats behind us and he was reading NEWSPAPERS. ACK!
See the guy behind G? Reading newspapers! (I cropped the pic so can't see liao) Eeks! Check out the bad checkered shirt behind G! Told ya! G with his new Agnes B bag - and my Agnes B purple bag! Heh heh!

G pretending to be a mainlander tourist! Check out the tour guide with the pink flag! We were so tickled coz that reminded us of Yiling who had referred to herself as the Holland Village tour guide with a pink flag! Haha!

The cobblestone streets from the ruins down towards the shopping area in Central Macau. Wah, MAINLANDERS/HKIES GALORE! They were handing out free food samples in hopes of people buying them but G & I reckon whoever's hungry just needs to make a few rounds at the various shops and dinner's sorted haha! We had yummy Portuguese eggtarts too! YUM!

I made this pic below slightly bigger than the rest - u need to zoom in to see what I was pointing at. We took this at the museum and was tickled to see a bit of vandalism under the explanatory plaque on the wall. No security one siah the museum - so easy to vandalise haha!I was cranky coz I was hungry but G was taking his own sweet time at the Grand Prix Museum lor. You can TELL I'm cranky.
The wine museum had mannequins with various farming outfits. What people wear when they farm grapes I reckon. It was a bit WTF but they gave us a free glass of wine each haha! And the token touristy shot in front of the museum for Mr Gan.

Finally! The damn pics!

Chef Gan stirfrying the pork!

TAAADAAAA! THE DINNER!

G tucking into his lamb at Isola. See my cod fish! Man, the food rocked! (For what it costs, it better be!)

G & I at FINDS after our dinner at Isola. I insisted on him being in the foreground so my head doesn't look so big. Haha!

In Macau - with the famous 'Ruins of St Paul' in the background. A bit overrated if you ask me, it's just a wall left standing after the church collapsed/got bombed out/whatever. Wah, that's how much history information I learnt on my trip to Macau! Woohoo! Haha!

Macau has cute streets - very Europe like, with cute buildings, cobblestones streets. I reckon if you replace the Canto speaking crowd with ang mohs, you can *kind* of imagine you are in Europe. Here we are, with our best kawaii shots! A bit small, cannot really see, damn! PEACE!

More food! Man, we totally stuffed ourselves. This is at Fernando's. Roasted suckling pig, fish and the clams all rocked!

There are a few more pics which I will try to upload over the weekend!

G's trip to HK - day by day blog

Alrighty - super lengthy day by day blog coming up. Read only when you are bored and have too much time on your hands.

Thursday
Left office at 1.30 to go to the airport to meet G. The plane touched down at 2.45pm but G got checked at customs and came out an hour later! Haha! Had to unpack and endure questions from the customs officer 'Are you from Thailand?' (He was wearing a Coke T shirt in Thai) We walked around Times Square and had dinner and also did some grocery shopping as he was all prepared to whip up a sumptuous dinner for me the next day. Prior to that, just after leaving the apartment, G and I walked past Optical 88 and I've been needing new spectacles (my current one is scratched and one of the bling on the frames fell off!). G was looking at a couple of designs so we settled inside the store and was served by this roly-poly optometrist named Jimmy! I bought two pairs; a purple Gucci one with bling on the sides, and a reddish Burberrys one. G also had his eyes checked and he has 20/20 vision. Lucky bastard! Jimmy was tad disappointed as he couldn't earn G's money! G and I then spent the rest of the evening at home watching telly, and he also marinated the pork for tomorrow's dinner.

Friday
On a quest to find himself some T shirts, we went to Tsim Sha Tsui to shop around. He acquired 2 polo shirts, and 2 v cool T shirts with funky motifs (*gasp* G's almost hip now- he will hopefully lose the ah-peh ness in him v soon heh thanks to yours truly) We then went home so we could prepare dinner! The pork was well marinated and when cooked with red & yellow bell peppers, was delish! G was overzealous when trying to do the gravy- I had to step in to 'rescue' it! Haha! But a valiant attempt nonetheless. He also cooked a huge pot of soup and we fried veggies with enoki mushrooms! It was a big dinner for two (pics coming soon) but it was very enjoyable coz I guess when you have someone to dine with, it is always more fun. We then popped in ANCHORMAN to watch (we've been talking about watching it together for almost a year now!) but it wasn't as good as we thought and we ended up watching Scary Movie 3! Haha! A nice quiet Friday night on the couch watching DVDs - it was bliss!

Saturday
Having had an early, restful Friday night, we woke up bright & early on Saturday and went for yum cha. Damn that day was cold! It was 17 degrees which is abnormal for April in HK! Catching a bus to South Horizons, how can a trip to HK be complete without visiting the Prada warehouse? Heck, we reached even before the store opened at noon! But nothing good to buy there unfortunately though he did fancy a pair of Church's shoes but no size. A red sling bag caught my fancy but it was a wee bit flimsy for its price so we left there with wallets intact. We took a bus to Central where we then took a ferry to TST, and then taking the train to Mong Kok to Fa Yuen Street which has tons of sneaker stores. The Pumas he fancied were unfortunately women's sneakers (white with gold details and I didn't like them enough to acquire them either!) We then had to go home to get ready for our 'date' to swanky Isola. Dressing up to go out was fun! Having called and making reservations was a good move - though it wasn't crowded, we got a nice corner table by the window overlooking Kowloon. The food was excellent too though for its price, it bloody well be! He had lamb and I had cod and we shared an appetizer of fried calamari and washed everything down with sparking water. Dinner came with a bread basket and *gasp* caviar. Man, overrated can. I ended up dousing my bread sticks with good ole olive oil & balsamic vinegar. G ordered a tiramisu (which we shared), and he washed it down with a shot of espresso. After dinner, we strolled in the cold to Lan Kwai Fong to FINDS - the drinking hole which I brought him to before and we loved. Had a drink each, then went home. The day's cold weather seemed to have gotten to him - he was almost recovered yesterday! When we got home, he was sniffling (and cranky again!). I asked 'are you ok?' to which he barked 'no, i'm not ok!', (tamade) so I tucked him into bed while I finished watching FATAL ATTRACTION on TV.

Sunday
Tamade - I also caught the chills from the day before. I woke up sniffling and it must have been quite a sight - both of us sniffling away as we took an easy day just shopping around Causeway Bay. Started out our day with a nice brunch at GOD cafe - a sorta 'posh' furniture store with a cafe. G had an English breakfast with the works - sausages, bacon (the bacon was yum!) scrambled eggs, hash browns and baked beans. I had the laksa which was pretty good too. G and I then shared a chocolate truffle cake which was all part of the set. Thereafter, we went shopping inside GOD and he bought a T shirt from there - they have a series of T shirts called "DELAY NO MORE" and we've always been very taken by that! Just think of that line in Hokkien - it's hysterical! 'Mai tu liao!' Haha! I had to do some household shopping - went to Ikea to get new shower curtains (my old ones were so grubby!), and I bought a pair of plastic shoe trees and a new rug for the floor outside the bathroom. We also had to find some weird stockings that his mom entrusted him to buy - man was that a tough mission! But we finally managed to get them at Sogo of all places haha!

Us being sick must have made us a bit soft in the head and not thinking straight coz we walked into Agnes B and saw a bag each which we liked. And of coz being sickly, and probably a lot less rational than we normally would have been, we ended up buying a bag each. Ah well what the heck, it made us feel a lot better! Also went to Camper and bought the shoes that I saw the day before and been thinking about the whole night and day! It costs.... a lot and I never imagined I would fork out that kinda money for a pair of shoes but I did. Like I said - I WAS SICK AND NOT THINKING STRAIGHT! And having G in tow didn't help. When you're shopping with someone who wears a $6000 watch, you should know what you're getting yourself into! :P

Monday
We woke up a wee bit too late - we were due to head off to Macau! We should have bought the ferry tickets the day before. We were there at about 10.45 and though ferries leave for Macau almost every 15 min, the next available ferry was at 12pm. We had lunch at Yoshinoya while we waited. The journey merely took an hour and after checking in, we went off to explore Macau. Went to the Grand Prix museum (I was bored he was not) and then to the wine museum (a bit wtf actually). I was cranky! I was cranky and hungry! And G couldn't take a hint! Actually, I think he knew but he act blur. We then had lunch and went to soak in other sights i.e. do touristy stuff haha! We really wanted to try some Portugese food and in one of the food guides we picked up, it recommended this restaurant but when we got there, the place was empty! Well my policy when overseas, is 'When in doubt, follow the crowd' so in this case we weren't gonna risk eating there! So we cabbed to this other 'famous' restaurant right at the 'end' of Macau called Fernando's as recommended by my trusty Lonely Planet book and it was awesome! The cabbie even knew we wanted to go there! G mentioned the name of the island the restaurant was on, and the cabbie went 'Fernando?'. G and I were stunned! We had clams, fried fish and roasted suckling pig. YUM! We then went to one of the biggest casinos SANDS just to explore possibly gambling but the stakes were all fairly high and I am not big on gambling so after a while we went back to the hotel and watched soccer on cable TV!

Tuesday
It would have made more sense to wake up earlier considering we had to catch the 1pm ferry back to HK. Left the hotel a bit later than anticipated and went to the Macau museum. After that, we had noodles at this nice little cafe. And then we hauled ass out to the main road to catch a cab, rushed upstairs to get our stuff, rushed back down, checked out, got into a cab, checked in to customs, and got on the ferry back. Back in the apartment, G packed his stuff, and we decided to head out cos the weather was nice and we had a couple of hours to spare. We had noodles and G helped me with a bag of rice and toilet paper from the supermarket. We got back to the apartment, hopped into a cab to get G checked in at the in-town check-in counter, only to find out his flight was delayed by 45 minutes! Yay! We spent that time roaming around IFC, then made our way to the airport where we had mango dessert at xu liu shan. That has to be the least crowded xu liu shan in HK! We then went to buy lao po ping for G's folks, and soon after, we bade goodbye and he went in to catch his flight back to Singapore.

I will be uploading the pics soon.....I think my internet connection at home is super slow and I cannot upload from there. I will transfer the pics to this comp and attempt to do them from office tomorrow.

Back to work

Bleah! Back to work i.e. a LOT of emails. Am reading them but they are either not making sense to me or/and I can't string coherent sentences to reply. Just spent most of my time in a daze - did not get enough sleep last night. Yawn.

Cantobabble is in the background and I'm playing Train's new album to attempt to drown it out. Aarrrgh! Just stop it already!

Bloody blogger site is so slow & retarded I can't seem to post any pics. Will try again tonight.
Argh I'm so depressed it's not funny. I have a HUGE painful zit on my back! Aargh!

Perhaps I will blog about my shopping over the past few days but I may faint when I tabulate the total amount I spent. Agnes B bag, Camper shoes, 2 pairs of new spectacles! One month's expenditure gone in a few days. G is bad news for me in terms of spending $$! Haha! :P

Just contributed HK$100 for my IT colleague's newborn baby. Pfft, I barely spoke 5 lines to the guy but ah well, what the heck. They are giving him a supermarket voucher! HAHA! How hysterical is that? I guess that will come in handy with the diapers and the milk formula lah.

Too much of a good thing

Too much of a good thing is bad for you.

When you have too much fun, and it all ends, you crash straight into rockbottom and you just sit there wondering what the hell happened.

G is now on a plane back to Singapore. By a stroke of 'good luck', his flight was delayed by 45 minutes, giving us a bit more time together. But that also means that he will only touch down past midnight and though his parents will be pickin him up from the airport, he will only get to bed probably past 1 am and he has to go to work tmrw.

The past few days we spent together probably just made things a lot harder. If we haven't had so much fun together, perhaps going back into the swing of my monotonous life in HK would not be as hard. But without him coming, I don't know how I can keep my sanity going. This is a depressing post and I can't write anymore without going into sap overdrive and making everyone sick. Trying to relive the past few days may also prove to be too depressing. I'm going to find solace in dinner - I am hungry but have no appetite.

Out of action

G is on a plane on his way to HK! He'll be touching down in 1 1/2 hours time.

Some of you suan-ed me for our mushies on my blog - well too bad! It's my blog! :P

Alrighty - shall not make you guys sick anymore! Ack! I certainly do not wish to turn into a JoHo! Hee!

I think I've completed most of what is needed from me in terms of work for today! I'm off to the airport in 30 min to meet him there! Not sure if I'll blog the next few days - perhaps I'll let him guest blog haha!

Bye bye!

Sick

Poor G is sick! He's come down with a major case of the sniffles and he went to the doctor's just now after work (and after picking up my watch at The Hour Glass, thank you!) and got the works for meds - antibiotics inclusive! He's a snappy sick person so I certainly hope he gets better soon if not his holiday would be ruined! (Also I'm not good with snappish people... :P ) Despite the doctor's advice to take tomorrow off to rest, he has to go to work coz he has a mountain high pile of work to clear especially if he will be off from Thurs - Tues!

Drink loads of water and get plenty of shut-eye!

Yay!

The week is here! Back in February - this week seemed so far away! I remeber I kept thinking "Omg, when is Easter ever gonna come?"

It's the end of Monday now which means I just need to survive Tuesday & Wednesday & half a day in the office on Thursday and G will be here in HK! He said he will plan an itineary on his flight here and I'm like 'okay show me!' Heh! The only thing we know for sure is he will be cooking a 3 course dinner for me on Friday (charcoal pills on standby liao heh), we are going to swanky Isola on Saturday night (on a 'proper' date heh heh) and spending 2D1N in Macau on Mon- Tue.

It's been a mad day at work - so busy! Argh!

Had a fun Saturday last weekend - Mervyn was over in HK with his friends watching the Sigur Ros concert and man, his friends are mad! They were real fun and I used to think Merv was an alcoholic until I met Robin & Desmond. Robin in particular, could not resist walking into EVERY 7-11 and coming out chugging a can of beer. They came up to my apartment to use the loo and they each had a beer. We then headed out and I followed the guys shopping in CWB and onwards to Mong Kok where we met Robin's HKie friend Brian. He brought us to dinner, and following that, brought the guys porn shopping! Haha! It was funny! The entire level of that particular mall was shops and shops selling porn porn and more porn! I lurked around outside the store first but decided to go in and be confronted by DVDs and DVDs of half naked Jap/Korean chicks! It was a hoot!

We went back to their hotel room where they got loaded up on some vodka before we headed out to a local pub. They knocked back tequila shots, beer and very soon were a very riotous bunch! I had great fun coz they were so laid back, fun and very Singaporean - heck even Brian could say 'lah' & 'leh' like a true blue Singaporean! Go him!

Alrighty - just thought I shouldn't slack off on my updates. I am heading to Central to have dinner with my friend Eric. Great - one less TV dinner night for me! Woohoo!

Piccies from SG

Bloody blogger site.
I'm trying to post pictures and it's taking fucking forever.
I am going to try again...grrrr...

Pic 1 - taken after dinner with my family last Friday when I was back. It was my Mom's birthday and omg, check that out! I think my dad is *gasp, could it be?* smiling in this photo! Kinda like a half smile but a rare treat for you readers nonetheless! Heh heh! That's G, me, my older sis Shirley, younger sis Diana, her boyfriend Martyn and the dorky looking one on the extreme right is my pesky younger bro Eugene. I think if I need to tell u who those two are sitting at the table, u need to get your eyes checked or improve your English reading skills. *roll eyes*

Pic 2 - taken at The Rice Table at Cuppage Terrace at Sunday lunch with Sexy Lexy, ndr, Mother Hen & Addy. Addy & I were shot on Ian's bleeding expensive swanky new Olympus camera - can u so tell the difference between a cheapo digicam and this one? Yeah, neither could I... (except i think my cheapo HP one seems to take nicer pics.. HAHA!) Sorry - JUST had to suan u lah.

Movies

Am watching American Idol as I blog. 'Country' is the theme and it's frankly quite boring.Missed last week's which I reckon could have been good. Gah.

Anyway I have been buying VCDs/DVDs! Went to the neighbourhood VCD store and bought 'Crash' - the movie that won this year's Oscar for Best Picture. Pfft, the DVD cost HK$175 but I really wanna see it! Also bought 'Scary Movie 3' (hey it might make for a entertaining weekend movie) and it was merely HK$20 (and no it is not pirated) as well as 'Inside Deep Throat' - the documentary about the controversial 1972 porn movie 'Deep Throat'.

I convinced Cardin to buy 'Pulp Fiction' (one of those 'MUST WATCH' movies!) and she also bought '9 songs'. We watched the latter last night at my place where both of us were sharing my laptop simulataneously to talk to our long distance boyfriends. How sad is that! Haha! '9 songs' is about a couple who met and fell in love at a gig they were at and it also showcases some v cool bands such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Franz Ferdinand, Super Furry Animals and the rest I don't remember. In btwn them going for the gigs, they just had sex... a lot. It was... interesting...

It is Ching Ming today and a public holiday here in HK. Woke up late and sat around the house (I tried to build my coat rack but dun have screwdriver to set it in place! Argh) until I got out of the house just to walk around a bit. Ended up in HMV and acquired more movies! Was gonna get DVDs but VCDs are cheaper and it's not like I wanna watch the 'extras'. I got 'Fight Club' (yes I am one of those weirdos who have not seen it- well my past attempts of watching it always ended up with me dozing off), 'Garden State' (Zach Braff from 'Scrubs' & Natalie Portman which I've always wanted to watch) as well as 'Red Eye' which stars Rachel McAdams & Cillian Murphy. Each VCD cost less than a HK movie ticket lor. I reckon I'm sorted for a few weekends at least! Heh heh!

Eight more days to G! :)

backinthecantoshithole

Yeah, I am back. HK got considerably warmer while I was away.. now it's like in the mid - high end of 20 over degrees.

It was such a joy to be able to go back to Singapore. Caught up with my colleagues on Friday night, post birthday dinner with my family. I think my mom was very thrilled that I was back and she told me that my grandma was very pleased to hear that I came back. Spent some time with her on Friday, running some errands and shopping for a short while since I knew I wasn't gonna have much time with her that weekend.

Friday night was Yeacy's farewell drinks at Zouk and nothing has changed i.e. my SG colleagues are STILL raging alcoholics haha!

Saturday was spent with G where we started the day with my fave chicken rice at Far East Plaza and while we were finishing up our lunch, we saw WK and caught up with her while she had her lunch and had a short Ya Kun session.

G & I went to look at watch cases coz he wanna store his (super expensive) watches properly coz right now, these are just lying in bubble wraps in his drawer! *mock shock* I also bought a Samsung mp3 player, even though I wanted to buy a Ipod to begin with, the Ipod is just shabby compared to the Samsung and even Creative. We also did a manicure/pedicure together at PS and now we both have pretty nails! Tried to convince him to paint them purple but to no avail. :P

After dinner at Straits Kitchen, we proceeded to Timbre Bistro to have drinks with Kai, Yiling, Trish & SJ. This truly feels like how all Saturdays should be - not how I spend them in HK i.e. ALONE and doing fucking housework.

Sunday - met with Addy, Alex, ndr & Ian for lunch at The Rice Table. Oh-so-excellent! I miss real spicy dishes... all these fake 'curries' these HKies do - harrows! Curries are not just yellow coloured gravy stuff lor! Doh! Then Addy & I met up for a spot of shopping with Kai & Yiling where G joined us shortly after before we all headed towards HV for Addy's belated birthday celebration.

Spent Sunday night at G's where both of us tried to freakin file our taxes but the freakin website doesn't bleeding work! Then it was off to the airport at 5am and back here in Cantoshithole.

9 more days to G coming to HK!
