Harry Potter ROCKS!!
I am typing this on the airplane on my way back to HK. Just have to save it on MS word first of course since I can’t very well post it, me being airborne. Like some high flyer with a computer, typing away on a laptop…
I’m trying to endeavour to write better English on this blog coz I realized that I have quite a fair bit of Singlish on it. I went through my Yahoo mail account just the other day as I was having a MSN chat with Gary about ‘hum bin’ (nightmares in Hokkien for the uninitiated) and I remembered that I had one really vivid nightmare which I put down on email & sent to my friends the next day. The email was dated 28 Nov 1999 and amazingly enough I still have it on my email sent folder. So I went through some of the emails I sent out when I was a youthful 19 year old and thought that I was all grown up. After all I completed bloody polytechnic didn’t I?
I shudder at the way I used to write. I know emails to friends are supposed to be candid and need not to be written in “Queen’s English" and blogging is somewhat like the emails I send out to my friends before this whole blogging thing came along. But then again I read SJ’s blog and ndr’s blog, and Mother Hen’s blog and I feel a bit blah for writing the way I do sometimes. And to think when I was in secondary school, I was told that I was good. Somehow I think some poor old short sighted English fool at Cambridge made a huge mistake when he gave me the A1 for my ‘O’ level English in 1995.
Anyway there isn’t a point to this post at all – I may not even post it. Then this can be one of those rare “B-side” entries that I may publish at a later date! Haha!
As mentioned, I was extremely torn on what to do on my last day in Bangkok. I decided to go with watching Harry Potter and I am glad that I made that choice! I ran out of money as I needed to put aside 500Baht for airport tax so even though I was extremely tempted to shop, I didn’t wanna spend any more money! On the advice of my kind Thai colleagues, I took the BTS to Siam (my hotel is at Sala Daeng – near the infamous Patpong area) which only cost 15Baht (70cents) to get there. I went to Siam Discovery Centre pretty early as I wanted to make sure I can catch the earliest possible show they have. I was in luck as the first HP movie in session was due to start at 10.40am so I bought a ticket for 120 baht (S$5) and went in to the theatre (which is quite nice!)
Adeline, you will like this. They showed SEVEN movie trailers before the commercials. I don’t even remember what they all were – I think there were 2 Thai movies, and “Final Destination 3” (looks scary!), “Chronicles of Narnia”, “King Kong” (looks bizarre to me in all honesty), “Domino” (the new Kiera Knightly flick), and the other one I don’t remember at this point. I was fidgeting in my seat coz the movie still hasn’t started by 11am and I needed to ensure I was back in the hotel to check out by 2pm and I’ve been told the movie is 2 ½ hours. When the commercials ended and the lights finally dimmed, I was relieved but to my surprise, they showed this short reel which I imagine is their equivalent of the National Anthem? The screen read “Please pay respect to our Majesty, the King” and everyone in the theatre stood up! There weren’t many people but I was like “err what’s going on?” I slunk lower into my seat and hoped I wouldn’t get arrested for not standing up….
Anyway I loved the movie. Haha I’m biased coz I love the book and even though I knew Cedric was gonna die, when he died I was like “NOOOOO!” Yes, very spastic I know.
YAY! Harry Potter rocks! Once I get home, and do my bloody laundry, unpack my bloody bag, I am going to read Goblet of Fire again tonight!
