In the land of Gucci
We went to yum cha this afternoon at Maxim at City Hall and took the Star ferry over to Tsim Sha Tsui to this particular huge ass music store where Gary wanted to find a guitar which was very small (it's called a 'Little Martin' if that makes any sense to anyone of u).
We noticed many many people carrying Gucci bags of all shapes and sizes and decided that it might be fun to count how many Gucci bags we can spot in a day. Also we have had this argument over checkered shirts and were looking at "good checks/bad checks/lumberjack checks/shower curtain checks/boxer shorts checks" the whole day. And man, there were A LOT OF DAMN BLOODY UGLY I-wouldn't-use-this-as-a-rag checkered shirts in HK.
Out from 2pm to about 10.30pm, we counted a total of.... 107 GUCCI BAGS. ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN BAGS THAT COST AT LEAST S$400 for the smallest to huge-ass-can-stuff-an-infant-in-it (approximately S$2000) Gucci Bags... and we saw 107 HKies carrying it. And not just the chicks, guys were also flaunting their Guccis as well as middle aged aunties (and I'm not talking abt tai tais)
BTW GARY IS GAY-MAN-IN-THE-MAKING. He went to the toilet yesterday during dinner and walked past a full length mirror. He came back to our table and said "I walked past a full length mirror and I checked myself out and damn I just realise how good I look in my new jeans". As if that's not roll eyes enough, he JUST bought a HK$1700 leather boots from Lane Crawford and put them on at home and go "Jan, I rock!" with his stupid new (expensive) shoes...
I need more sane friends.

Haha, gay-man-in-the-making Gary is the ABBA preppy boy, right? Are Little Martins cheaper in HK?

Hi Andrea. Jan said you posted a comment, and I'm glad to know there's someone else who knows what a Little Martin is! No, they aren't cheaper in HK, but at least they're available, and I wanted to try one out. In Singapore, you have to back order cos' they don't keep stock. You looking for one too?

Haha, because it is so rare nowadays for someone to still hanker after acoustic sounds! Nah, I hung up my guitar after it was becoming very detrimental to my touch on the piano. Which LX are you looking at?

Piano! I lost my touch when I was a teenager. I made it as far as Grade 5 only to let it all slip away. If I have one regret in life, it would be that I can't play the piano the way I used to anymore. *sigh* I was looking at the LX1E, and I tried the LXME in HK. I'm not sure what the difference is, and I don't think I'd be able to tell even if I did! And the knobs are at the bottom where the strap pin is which are a bit hard to control, but it beats not having knobs at all. And Jan was saying that 'baby' guitars lack cred. I'm sure that that will all change if someone like John Mayer started playing an LX! I know Sting already does. Not that Sting would be in Jan's age group of rockers. *snig*

Hey, I'm just telling u "size is everything"! :P Get the Little Martin, see if chicks will give u the time of their day! They might just go 'Oh! So Cute!' - I'm sure that's what YOU want ain't it?

hello, u sure the guccis are all real stuff? u know how close hk is to shenzhen and shanghai and all parts of china, right? grade A stuff maybe? haha!

That's the argument Gary & I had, whether the Guccis we saw were real. But we reckoned HKies are so brand-conscious they wouldn't be caught dead carrying a fake! And we decided it's too much of a hassle to decide whether they were real or not, so we didn't discriminate and counted everything we saw. I'm sure they were a couple of fakes esp with those 'aunties' and one on this Filipino maid we saw! Haha!
