JC kids

My sister Di has a new temp gal in her office. This JJC kid is around 17/18 years old and on school holidays so working in my sis's company for 1 month.

Di is complaining that this gal had to ask her how to turn on the computer. Gosh, do JCS NOT have computers for their students to use? I thought nowadays even poly kids go to sch with their own laptop liao? Apparently the gal says they seldom use computers and when they do, the computer will already be switched on for them to use.

Never mind. Then she has to send email. She doesn't know where to click to open a new email. Di is just *this* close to boiling point. Somemore this kid is blur as and asks her what to do every step of the way.

I just find it hard to believe that a teenager in Singapore will not know how to use a computer. Somemore, JC kid leh. What will happen when she goes to university (I'm assuming her lack of knowledge in using a computer will not affect her 'A' Levels? Snig) Write out her 3000 words essay on foolscap paper ah? And then when write wrongly, use liquid paper? And when checking if she makes the word criteria, count the words one by one! HAHAHAHAAH!

Hmmm....perhaps she's underpriviliged. Still quite a few families in Singapore without a computer (while others have several).

I guess as much as I hate the local education system, it does have its merits, like allowing students without basic computer knowledge to still get a good education.

I'm not faulting her. My question is - don't junior colleges at least provide some basic computer classes? Or at least have some of the stuff done on computer? Are they still handwriting out their papers? I'm just wondering...... and amazed that there are teenagers in SG who can't use a computer! I know there are people who don't have computers at home. Heck I know someone my age, with no email address too!

As far as I know, JCs do not have basic computer lessons and yes, essays are hand-written.
