Sick

Sorry for the lapse of updates, I was actually back from SG on Sunday night but was so damn bloody sick I could barely bathe, let alone blog. I caught a bug in Singapore on Saturday (I think), and two late nights in a row (Friday was drinks with ex colleagues in Zouk, Sat I was at St James with the gals) is more than my old fragile body could take. When I got back to G's place on Saturday, I quickly hit the showers, dried my hair and went to lie down in an attempt to fall asleep. G went to sort out his laundry coz his pants got stained at the restaurant, and when he finally came to bed, he hugged me good night and went 'baby you are burning up!!!' I had no idea that I was; in fact I was feeling a bit numb. He jumped out of bed to grab me some pills to eat to bring the temperature down and wrapped my head with a towel and tucked me in. I woke up feeling better and thought I was fit to fly back. Oh man, when I got to the airport, I was a right state what with loads of sneezing, sniffly nose and my body was starting to clam up again. The way I looked, I'm surprised that every step of the way, nobody stopped me to go 'Miss, you look too sick to fly'. When I was in the plane, I was shivering and when I asked for a blanket, the stewardess apologetically went 'Sorry we are out of blankets but I will raise the temperature for you' (I am not pleased with this, I want to complain!)

When the plane finally landed, I was so relieved I think I almost burst into tears. I was surprised I made it out of HK airport since they have those heat sensor things to make sure people with a high temperature will be checked (they scared of SARs ah, they super paranoid) but I was lucky that when I walked past, the guy manning that screen had a colleague who came by to talk to him at that very minute. I walked past and caught a glimpse of myself in the screen - I was a different colour coz my body temperature was THAT hot. I couldn't even take the train back to the city, and just took a cab directly from the airport (by doing so, I spend about S$40 more) but I was really dead on my feet by then. Got home, hit the showers, called G to let him know I reached, called my mom and when she heard my voice, she was very worried and tried to make me to go to the doctor's! I was like 'It's 10pm! On a Sunday! Leave me alone! I'll go tomorrow!"

It was a terrible night, woke up a lot, hum-bin'ed a lot, sweated it out into my quilt but thankfully self medication helped a bit and in the morning I went to the doctor's where she just said 'it's a virus bug' and gave me 4 pills and cough mixture to fix it. Now I am much better though the cough still sounds a bit nasty!

I had to get much better coz for the next two days I am attending Music Matters so I will be out of the office. Hope this will be interesting. I had something else I wanted to blog but I forget though I'm sure it will come back to me by this weekend. I won't be yoga-ing until the cough is gone coz I think my fellow yogis will be freaked by me coughing in class. So thou shall be considerate and not go......until mebbe this Saturday.

I'm bored now, shall blog another time! Toodles!

Super cheena wedding dinner

My colleague from the IT department got married on Sunday and he invited all of us to his wedding dinner. Initially I was reluctant to, coz I reckoned I would be bleeding bored since I won't understand what was going on. But if I don't go, I still have to give him ang pow so I reckon what the heck, I'll just go for a good meal.

It turned out to be quite amusing coz it was one of the most cheena wedding dinners I have ever been to. And I can assure you I have been to *pretty* cheena ones (almost all I attended from my mom's side of the family are quite hilarious). It has the standard reception table where you sign your well wishes in a cheena looking book for the couple, which is flanked by a 'soft focus' taken photo of the couple. The thing with HK weddings is that the couple will stand on stage, and people will take turns to go up on stage to take picture with them! Wahaha! Machiam celebrity.

The funny thing about HK wedding dinners (I don't recall if I have mentioned before) is that everyone at the table will toast 'GAN BEI' before tucking into the dish. This happens for EVERY DISH (except those that have been distributed into individual portions). That's actually my fave part of the whole dinner coz it just cracks me up plus everytime we say 'gan bei' we get to eat a new dish. ;)

My colleague was obviously very happy on his big day and he looked more awake than I have ever seen him in the office (Heh!). However, I was a bit appalled coz he had glitter in his hair and a bit on his face too! That's a bit much aint it? As if that's not bling enough, he had a SILVER VEST and a SILVER tie on inside his black suit. It's not even sleek subtle silver, it's like cardboard glitter silver. Like crunchy silver. Gah I don't know how to describe but it was quite 'ge tai' lah.

Then got the usual games, touching speeches, very bad canto techno music (argh!) and the very unnecessary photo slide presentation. Does anyone really care how the couple look like when they were young? It's so unnecessarily embarrassing, what with the geeky hair, 80s specs and unglamourous clothes. You want your guests to remember you in your sharp suit and lovely wedding gown, not you in your school uniform 20 years ago. Frankly, all everyone wants, is to wish them well, take one picture with them (to prove they were there in case of missing ang pows heh), stuff their faces and get the hell out of there. I think Chinese wedding banquets have gone way too far.

The food was excellent - a grand total of 13 courses! Scallops, sharksfin, suckling pig, fish, chicken, noodles, fried rice, vegetables, crab roll etc etc. Oh and when they served the first dish, instead of some cheesy Kitaro track favoured by Singaporean Chinese restaurants, they played this cartoonish tune. I was like WTF at first but my colleagues around me kindly explained that that was the theme song to a local cartoon series featuring a pig. Ha! These ppl have a sick sense of humour I swear. Ah well, anyway the tasty food made my trip worthwhile and at least I was entertained for a couple of hours! :D

Going back to SG!

I'm back next weekend! There's a 'Buddha's Birthday' public holiday on 24 May so I took 25 May off and will be back until 27 May, leaving in the afternoon.

I am then back again 15 - 19 June (Tuen Ng Festival - I think it's the Dumpling Festival but I'm not sure) and then again for Alan Lim's wedding on 20 July! I think that wedding should be a real riot - I mean, this is a wedding with a 'after-wedding party' most likely at Zouk. Woohoo!

Wedding overloads - I have another one to attend on August 11! My good ole friend from my Melbourne days is practically 'forcing' me to come back. I should get her pay for my air ticket frankly tsk tsk :P

Then Addy's ROM on 15 Sept, which is a day after G's birthday!

And I'm STILL thinking about the Nintendo DS Lite.

The job that started it all...

Thought I'll post this - though I can't quite imagine anyone of you being quite relevant but what the heck.

My SG-based company is looking for a Promotions Executive as the current dude is leaving to go to good ole Melbourne to get a degree!

So if you think you can persuade editors of teenyboppy magazines to let the company's artistes front the cover of their magazines, convince radio station folks to put some possibly crappy not-yet-Top 40 songs from similar artistes on the airwaves, amongst other things, like opening CD after CD after CD and stamping 'PROMO ONLY - NOT FOR SALE' on the inside of these CDs, this job might just be for you.

Warning - the pay is not high. Definitely less than $1.8K but I think got mobile and transport allowance. This job is for anyone who 'loves music' but can do way more beyond just that. Seriously, that alone is not enough to get you by. But no worries - along with this job, there are some perks, such as movie previews, industry parties (free booze!) which more than makes up for the pathetic paycheck.... I think.

I started out in this position 6 years ago. Gosh, I feel freakin' ancient! Anyway, if you are keen and think you are suitable for this job, let me know!

I want!

Should I?

I want to play stupid games like Cooking Mama! Haha!

But knowing my super short attention span, I am just scared I will bore of it within 2 weeks.

I will chew on this over this weekend and if I still want, I shall go check it out. Hmmmm!

Is it just me or is this sick?

Some people may find this cute - but I think it's sick! Though I reckon attempts to throw Ian into this Spa Fish Pool Dip might be funny. Hmmm he'll have a cardiac arrest even before hitting the water. Heh!

Lymph nodes

Now I am seriously concerned about my right lymph node on my neck. I have finished 2 courses of antibiotics which would supposedly have brought it down (just after one course would have sufficed apparently) and it's still slightly swollen! Though it's not as bad as before, the fact it's still there bothers me! I have asked my doctor before what I should do if it doesn't subside and he says 'don't worry, usually a course of antibiotics will fix this'. I was doubtful and asked 'what if it die die won't go down?' He actually paused and said 'Well I guess I can refer you to a specialist who will then do a biopsy by sticking a needle it and draining out the lymph fluid to see what is inside.'. He then scribbled some stuff on my medical card and said 'Usually by the time the patient sees the specialist, the node would have subsided'. He says in the WORST case scenario, it could be harmful and can either be drained out entirely, or cut out! But he promises that that is generally quite rare.

ARGH! That was my SG doctor who I trust somemore. I saw 3 other HK doctors (for varying reasons) for the past few months and none of them think this is cause for concern! 'A swollen lymph node shows that your immune system is working!' says one.

But it's been so long!! It really bothers me! :(

Way overdue pictures!

Elene finally sent through some majorly overdue pics from my birthday and our Christmas Day lunch! Haha! I almost forgot about them!

Us at The Rice Table where we had my birthday dinner. Some of them asked me why such an odd choice for dinner and frankly I didn't think it was half as odd as last year (we were at a HOKKIEN restaurant in CBD area, but the food is damn happening) and the year before (Jumbo Seafood - the staff came out with my cake, along with piped in Happy Birthday music in Canto - a sign of things to come? Haha!), though the main reason is that I really wanted to eat spicy food and it's a buffet so it ensures everyone gets sufficiently full. Mr Lum took this pic for us - much thanks ah! Eh Hoon, heng this one not blurry hor. Haha!

Birthday cake overcrowded with candles. Gals - once we hit 30, we are doing ONE candle okay? Such an effort to blow out so many candles ya know.
After dinner, we went for dessert at The Coffee Club. Why do I look like I have massive dark eye rings in this shot? I don't usually! This shot looks like I'm trying to grab hold of G while he leans towards Elene. Hmmmm...with basic Photoshop skills, I can be so easily cropped out of this shot! :O Heh.
The whole photo album that Elene sent, has waaay too many kawaii shots. Here's one of them. We were at this super cheena restaurant called Vienna at United Square. There was so much food, including crocodile soup, herbal chicken soup (which to us, kinda taste alike), raw sashimi, ribs, steaks (were there? I really can't remember), chocolate fondue, oysters, basically your typical kiasu hardcore Singaporean buffet lah.

Get outta here!

Hey Hey You You!

BYE BYE!

We are quite happy.

Better not put down who she is in case I get meself in to trouble but those 3 Days 2 Nights felt freaking long I can tell ya.

I couldn't quite feel my feet after standing/running around for those 2 days that after I made sure the last group hopped on the van to go to the airport (other colleagues are at the airport waiting for them), I decided I wanted NEW SHOES. And not some cheap ass Fa Yuen Street shoes. I wanted the better made kind so I went to Le Saunda and baulked at the prices of those shoes (mostly S$120 and above) but they had a promotion on some new arrivals and I found a whitish/creamish pair of one inch (wooden) heels which fit great coz they have half sizes! 37 1/2! I was contemplating getting a 38 coz of my widely spaced toes and the sales girl helpfully suggested half sizes. Geez, I have been getting cheap ass fashion shoes (they dun do half sizes obviously) that it seem fated I should get them. While not the cheapest shoes I have bought, for the brand, I got an absolute 'steal' (loosely speaking lah) at HK$399 (less than S$80) I am quite pleased with it and tried to walk around the house in it but decided against it in case I killed my wooden floor.

Alright that was fairly bimbotic! New shoes for Monday. Cheap (well not very cheap) thrill can.

Wanna go for yoga this weekend but both the classes I wanted for Sat & Sun are BOOKED! Bloody kiasu HKies.

Spidey!

A few of us got invited to the special preview of the spanking new, highly anticipated Spiderman 3 movie! I personally quite enjoyed it - it was jam-packed full of action with THREE villians! I think Sandman was quite good (the CGI is amazing) and Venom rocks too. I really like Topher Grace too but I keep seeing him as Foreman from 'That 70s Show' though! Haha!

I guess another reason why I liked it was possibly because MJ Watson said some things to Peter Parker in this movie that really struck a chord with me and what has been going on with me for the past two days. I almost teared coz what some of the stuff she said sounds like me!!!! (argh) but it would have been lame to cry at a Spiderman movie for gawd's sake!

It's one of those must-watch movie and you may not like the movie as much as I did (I admit the plot is flimsy, storyline predictable and you kinda know how it is all gonna end) but you know you are so gonna watch it! :)
